In the fast-paced world of small businesses, heck, running any business...you have to rely on skills that are critical to your success; selling your products or services, to people who want to buy them.
I have only become successful because I have built strong and trusted client relationships, this can be done in many ways, you just have to stay ahead of the curve...
Common Difficulties
Starting out, my biggest problem was getting people to notice and trust my work. If I sat back and didn't act on this, then I would have failed.
"Establishing trust, is better than any sales technique"
By focusing completely on client satisfaction and engaging with everyone in my community, I was able to quickly make a name for myself in a pretty competitive market at the time.
Why did I get ahead? Because I listened Because I tailored my services to meet what my customers actually wanted
Because I built long-lasting relationships
This leads to referrals, this leads to recommendations, this leads to shining reviews. EVERYTHING you need in order to gain trust, and credibility, and land more clients.
"But how do I know what people want?"
You. Have. To. Measure. Everything From counting how many people walk through your shop front door, to analysing your website visitors. Raw, hard data will give you invaluable insights into the behaviour of your visitors.
Like watching fish in a tank, you can identify patterns, likes and dislikes, their favourite rock...
With every business, you have the tools available to you to tailor your offering, campaign, and message in exactly the right way to better engage with your ideal audience.
Remember, watch, and listen...
The Relentless Search for Relevance
Mastering the art of adjusting to your client's needs and wants takes a lot of time and energy, but by grasping this deep understanding of your audience, you can better target them, better understand them and sell to them without having to sell at all.
You don't even have to monitor from the sidelines, one of the best techniques that worked for me was handing out questionnaires, this is a pretty grass-roots technique, but by hearing directly from the people around you, about what they want, your work is done for you.
Remember, the key to success lies in building MEANINGFUL connections that drive in more sales, it's value exchange, you show them that you're listening, and you care, and watch what happens...
